Indonesia-Europe trade volume may not be much but any conflict could hurt the business between two giant. The challenge is to make the case solved without hurting the business. There always something more important than to follow protectionism policy.
Europe in recent year had been driven by sunflower oil industry, so it is not surprise the conflict can be solved soon. Although other business who had interest in Indonesia start to make voice, but still another step to finish the conflict. The goodwill of Indonesia administration toward environment issues is important too.
It is not so secret that the policy maker in palm oil industry had access in administration. Perhaps through lobby or by keeping person influent by their side, those make direction of either policy or act can be intervened.
Many case regarding misuse of the natural forest for palm industry abolish, either no proof to proceed or lack of interest to act. All had been long criticize by environment activist who see the growing disappear of natural forest in Indonesia. If really want to protect the natural forest, administration have to be true and tough in implementing the policy.
The person in-charge to protect palm oil industry also have to be capable. Not all have to be protect, the wrong have to be straighten and punish. The real action would help finish the conflict.
Actually all is back to Indonesia side, how they want to grow the palm oil business in proper way is important. We should also see our future interest, that still natural forest intact for our kids. Money on size of mountain would not feed enough the hunger of the greedy people.
