Prospect of electric cars in Indonesia look promising, while still many obstacle have to be solved. Regulation is still unclear, although many believe could adopt the same regulation in general, but would not survive against the dominance of gasoline cars. Perhaps need support to start the move to be existence in automotive industry.
Tax incentive could also help electric cars, if it is including in the government policy. Many country did this to support the electric cars, with reason for helping clean environment. Even the technology also change gasoline cars become more clean and support the environment policy, so it is so competitive also.
In the meantime policy maker should work hand to hand with the industry to provide the basic need of electric car to survive. If you see in recent years automotive industry had very tough competition, many big manufacture just closed their factory in Indonesia. Perhaps too many players, and consumer just look for the cheaper and economist cars.
This is why consumer in Indonesia still could not afford the electric cars. Perhaps they can buy, but maintenance still costly and operational also still expensive. The electric price in Indonesia still does not support for electric cars. Although new regulation in place to reduce the electric tariff for consumer having electric component at home like electric cars, but still unclear how the implementation toward the used in electric cars.
Infrastructure for electric cars also is big investment. Many petrol company who like to join to provide electric charger need regulation should be fixed. Otherwise could loss investment if the policy still unclear.
Indonesia has big population so the market for electric cars widely open. The prospect is promising and automotive industry ready to absorb the electric car in their factory.
